Basement Developments

Basement development is one of the most cost effective ways of adding valuable square footage to your Calgary home. A guest suite, luxury home bar, kids zone play room, pool table/recreation space, movie theatre and more could be just a renovation away.

Feature Projects

Kelvin Grove

Project Context

After we renovated the upper level for them a few years previous, these repeat clients found that the new addition of child number three called for a warm, child friendly play area in the basement.  Keeping one eye on the design/function and the other on the investment requirement, we provided a mix of selections and construction options.

The Renovation

We installed a subfloor throughout to keep the space warm, dry and provide a “softer surface” than the concrete floor.  For ease of cleaning and durability, we installed a vinyl plank flooring in a herringbone pattern.  The shelving and storage units are a combination of “big box” units and custom made units, providing the best usable space while remaining mindful of cost.

A custom 3-piece bathroom was added both for the kids as they play downstairs and for the new guest bedroom.  To take away the “feel of a basement” and to provide safe egress, the small existing windows were enlarged.

Altadore

Adding Personality

After purchasing an infill home in Altadore, this client started to make it his own by contracting us for a multi-phase renovation plan.  With a nod towards a modern design, we transformed the basement from the all too common “Calgary beige” design, to something that reflected more of his personality and tastes.

Unique Features

We removed a storage closet and built a custom designed walnut wine storage, complete with 10 mil glass wall and sliding door.  With in-floor heating already installed in the concrete, we were able to remove the carpet and apply a durable epoxy finish.  We built a custom television surround that would not only bring a great design element to the space, but also provide for storage for components and DVD’s.

They respected the fact that I was living in the house when the work was being done. There was minimal disruption on my living space and the work space was always clean at the end of the day.
